What is the Home Security Program?
The Home Security Program is designed to assist people in recognizing security issues in and around your residence and to provide solutions to any problems that may arise.
Volunteers assist you by completing a security audit of your residence. These volunteers have been trained to look at common areas of concern and to identify possible problems. They will discuss options that are available to you in order to correct the problem.
Volunteers will also direct you towards different resource
materials that can be utilized to correct any problems. Some
of these materials are listed here. After approximately 30
days, the volunteers will contact you to follow up on the
recommendations. Once you have reasonably completed the
recommendations, a Home Security Decal will be issued.
In Canada, a residential burglary takes place every three minutes.
Follow up is necessary - for it ensures that this program
is an effective crime deterrent. The decal is designed to
be prominently displayed in your window, certifying that
your home is secure. In other areas, it has been proven that
too often decals are displayed without proper execution of
the Home Security recommendations.
Program volunteers, with the support of the RCMP, are
committed to assisting you in the full completion of this
program. Working together we can make your residence more
secure, and hopefully prevent property crime.
Home Security Procedures...
Here's how the Home Security Program works for you:
Phone the station if you wish to have your property audited.
Once you've called the station showing interest in the
program, arrangements will be made for volunteers to come
to your residence to perform a security audit.
On the Day of the Security Audit
- Two station volunteers will come to your residence at a
prearranged time and date.
- The security audit, including all of its checks and
forms, will be done in your presence.
- All reference material will be explained to you.
- Station volunteers will answer any questions or concerns
that are specific to your residence. Remember, the volunteers
are there to work with you to make your home more secure!
- Recommendations will be agreed upon and recorded in a
booklet - of which one copy is kept by you, and one is kept
by the station volunteers for the follow-up procedure.
After the Security Audit
Approximately 30 days after the initial security audit,
station volunteers will follow-up on the recommendations
that were made for your residence. If you have reasonably
completed the recommendations, you will receive a decal
indicating that your home is secure. This decal is placed
in a suitable position near the front door where it can
be clearly seen by all.
The Home Security Program is also designed to give you on-
going support. So, if you have any further concerns,
problems, or wish to have your residence re-evaluated
after the initial audit, do not hesitate to contact the
Station at any time.
There is no charge for this program, however donations are
accepted to offset costs. But like all of our programs and
services, no one will be refused this service.
