Bicycle Security is everyone's concern.
Fortunately, everyone's concern can be solved by considering the following precautions and suggestions. Hopefully, these suggestions will decrease your chances of having your bicycle stolen.
1. LOCK UP YOUR BICYCLE: This seems like common knowledge, but many bicycles are left unattended and unlocked for long periods of time.
Use a good theft-proof lock. A "U" lock is a good choice, but remember, even it is not 100% tamper proof.
These locks range in price from $26 to $100 dollars. The most expensive locks usually provide added insurance coverage if your bicycle is stolen while locked.
Wire-type chain locks can be cut through in an instant, and the thief tends to look for bicycles locked up this way first, before moving on. If you want a wire lock, purchase a good ½" cable lock. These are available in most stores and range from $25 to $40 dollars.
2. REMOVE THE SADDLE: Removing the saddle (seat) can be a bother, but it does act as a deterrent as the thief will not want to be seen riding without a
saddle. This is recommended if you are leaving your bicycle locked up for a long period of time.
3. TAKE THE FRONT WHEEL OFF: Again, this can be another chore, but now the thief must carry the bicycle which is rather suspicious.
4. BICYCLE ALARMS: Motion alarms are available for bicycles. The alarm is activated should anyone try to move your bicycle. These cost around $65 dollars.
5. BICYCLE IDENTIFICATION: Have a Drivers Licence number engraved onto your bicycle. If you don't have a number, use one belonging to a family member.
A Bicycle Identification sticker is placed on the bicycle to show that it has been engraved. Engraved bicycles are difficult to dispose of and are easily traced.

6. EXTRA TIPS...
- Lock your bicycle in an open and well lit area. If the bicycle can be seen by other people, then the thief will think twice about stealing it.
- Watch for people loitering around for no apparent reason. Do they have a tool or sports bag with them? Are they looking at the bicycles?
