Lock Out Auto Crime

A joint venture between community policing, crime prevention organizations and ICBC (Insurance Corporation of B.C.), this program is designed to remind people about keeping their vehicle safe.

Volunteers, dressed in uniform with bright vests, go out and patrol local parking lots in comercial areas, on streets and in parks. They visually examine cars for anything that could cause the car to be broken into. REMEMBER: It's always best to LEAVE NOTHING IN YOUR CAR!

Volunteers have a small form with common checks that include, among other items, "Valuables left visible," "Doors unlocked," to "Windows rolled down," and even a complimentary "Good Job - you've used your road sense and kept your car safe!" Once the form is completed, a copy is left underneath the driver's side windshield wiper. The other copy is kept by the volunteer and the station for information and statistical purposes.

The ticket is pre-stamped with the station address, the date of the patrol and with the location of the patrol (Semiahmoo Mall, Redwood Park, etc). Statistics of the patrol are complied and passed onto the police and ICBC.

Overall, the program is a positive asset in the war on auto theft and auto crime. It reminds motorists to keep their car safe. In many areas across British Columbia, Canada, the program has become a regular faset, with volunteers going out on patrol at least once a week.

Protect Your Vehicle: Combat Auto Theft

C.A.T. Decal

If you live in British Columbia, Canada, you can use this decal. It's a simple, proven way to reduce the risk of auto theft. How does it work? All you have to do is print and fill out the registration form.

The completed form states that your vehicle is rarely driven between the hours of 1:00 A.M. and 5:00 A.M. You'll be given a C.A.T. decal to place in your rear window. If the police spot your vehicle being driven between 1:00 A.M. and 5:00 A.M., they will stop the vehicle and verify the driver's licence and registration.

The "Combat Auto Theft" program is an effective deterrent to would-be thieves, and it doesn't cost you a cent.

"Combat Auto Theft" is a joint program of ICBC, your local police and BCAA. If you live in British Columbia, Canada, you can register your vehicle by printing out and completing the registration form and return it to BCAA's head office in Burnaby, British Columbia:
