personal poetry
steve lee's what the darkness doesn't know
drunk stumble and lag

I speak into the thick
of the air
and there is no answer --

I stare up into nature's canopy
of leaves --

and the sky darkens

moon and stars
crest on a natural new
age invisible wave --
up into the night sky
above

piercing through
the leaves the light
blinds me as I begin
to walk and run

and with each sharp crisp
sound of underbrush
I quicken my pace

and move faster

and yet, stillness
breathes deep sending
fear down my throat
like hot sticky c u m

its ominous feel
light as Chopin's Nocturne
as I stumble through
the underbrush and somewhere
on a limb behind me
a spider crawls out to
find freshly broken web

and I just continue to stumble
and run at this quickening
pace through this silent forest
of muted blue green darkness

and the wind begins to blow
as your fingers run through
your p u b e s and I run
with deep fright and shiver
as if I've lost some
instrument of flesh
blood and bone

and suddenly I come to
a stop to watch -- reversed

the skyline and landscape
entwine at the edge of a lake

I stare into the horizon
reflected in gentle waves
as natural swirls of a
warm water move gently

and I take
two steps back before
running to quickly jump
and just dive right in

as the moon and stars
pierce through the
water's transparent
surface -- providing
an aura of luminous
radiation to guide my
way deep down into the
depths of your memory

where the knife carves
a heart in the skin --
permanent bloody tattoo
of dead sexuality

the spider dead and
shriveled up into itself --
lying on its back, life
withered from the vine
fallen and broken
dead and mean

but then didn't you know --

how you were the
only one I ever truly
held in my heart
and my arms?
