personal poetry
steve lee's what the darkness doesn't know
fists pound the air

and slowly a door
swings out and open
toward you

as darkness spills up
and floods the very
presence of your being

and it's as if you
could just dip deep down
into this vastness
with the simple cup of
your bare hand
to bring it up to
your sweet soft lips
and stolid tongue
to just gently sip
and taste at it for
a only little while

and some drums fade in
and out of some strength
of light that escapes
with the darkness as
that door creaks open

it's a light that fades through
a rainbow of red yellow green
orange lavender peach and blue

and it's like standing on the precipice
of memory or crying out at the edge of oblivion

where sheltered hearts shatter
and sprinkle slowly down
into burned and scared hillsides
